I had dozens of them. But whenever I used to open my closet I would find myself staring at those zillions of clothes and thinking that I absolutely have nothing to wear. I would shop at fairly regular intervals but still found myself going back to my few favorites. That was the time it hit me hard that I was doing something wrong. I had to fix it. Just then I realized it was time to go minimal. No, that doesn’t mean that you need to become frugal or shop just twice a year. Going minimal means understanding your personal style and investing in something that you would actually wear. Have you bought something only because it was in trend and everybody else was wearing it? Don’t raise your hands. I know I have so yes… we can all nod sheepishly.

How can one go minimal?

Minimal fashion starts with creating a wardrobe that has staple items – versatile and essential. These are items that are timeless, classic pieces and can never go out of fashion. They can be mixed and matched to form completely new outfits. There is a fine line between dressing minimal and dressing boring. The key is to give importance to details. For example, for a simple white shirt you can have an interesting pattern going on the cuffs. You get the gist, right?

As far as jewelry goes, people are now giving a break to their big statement jewelry pieces and embracing minimal jewelry. There is more than one benefit associated with going the minimal jewelry way. There are fewer decisions you need to make as it is so versatile, it can be worn everyday and everywhere. A high quality pair of studs is any day better than a thousand other pieces that are just cluttered away in that ceramic jewelry box you own. When you know what jewelry you are going to wear the next day, you will waste less time and energy. When you wear certain pieces every day religiously, it sort of becomes your signature style.

Minimal jewelry gives you that refined look and is easy on the eyes. It looks the best when layered. A couple of dainty rings matched with a few midi rings and you instantly look polished. Stacking on multiple thin rings that have a tad bit of quirkiness about them adds perfect amount of bohemian vibe to your look. Combine an extra long necklace with a choker or bib collar necklace. Mix turquoise pendant necklaces with a rose gold necklace or silver delicate chains with gold bar necklaces. Remember, jewelry is very personal and should be something that makes you happy.
