Roses, whenever we hear this word all we can think about is the red color, relationships or gifts. Rose day also has its own significance in the valentine’s week. Roses have always been everyone’s favorite, they are not just beautiful but also there is much other significance of roses. These facts can always light up your mind and you may feel amused after hearing such facts. There are over 100 species and thousands of cultivars of roses. They vary in color, shape and size and all but one rose species have 5 petals. Cultivation of roses started 500 years BC and resulted in creation of 13,000 varieties of roses. Wild roses can survive in various habitats, except those associated with extremely cold winters. Also instantly after seeing flowers specially roses can make anyone feel happy about them and there is no doubt that a rose is the most luxurious flower. There are many facts which are unknown to us about roses yet. So, let us now discuss the amazing facts about flowers specially rose.

First of all there are no roses that are black in color, although there are a few species of roses that come close. The Turkish Halfeti rose, also known as “The Black Rose of Turkey”, is an extremely rare breed that appears pitch-black to the eye, but in fact is a dark reddish-crimson color.

Roses do not grow like shrubs; there are rose species that actually reach 23 feet in length.

Introduced to the world in 2006 by famed rose breeder David Austin, the Juliet rose took 15 years and £3 million (about $5 million) to breed. It is the world’s most expensive rose cultivar. Yes, the most expensive one!

Roses are vintage and classic. Their fossils are dated to be 35 million years old.  They are popular in art and literature. Over 4000 songs are dedicated to them.

Rose syrup is sometimes used to make marshmallows and is used in rose-flavored ice cream. They can be added to salads and used in desserts and also in cakes.

All rose species have 5 petals, except for the Rosa Sericea, which has 4 petals, it is in the native of Himalaya and generally found growing in the altitudes of around 1,2 – 2,4 miles (2 – 4 km). This breed of rose was introduced to Europe only in 19th century.

In 2002, the miniature rose, named the “Overnight Scentsation”, journeyed to space to aid in studies regarding the effects of low gravity on the smell of the rose, and to learn how to improve the fragrances of many consumer products.

The importance of a rose increases when each and every person on this planet gets to know about the Valentine week and rose day, they might not know the significance but this instantly makes rose as the most important flower around because a red rose is a symbol of love and passion, a pink rose a symbol of happiness and yellow rose a symbol of friendship.
